Hello. Here is a map I just started to make in hammer. I am pretty good at hammer but I am no designer. The map is for GMOD RolePlay so there is no need for many props since the users can furnish their own homes. I have a question. I have double doors to the building in the pictures. When I quickly open and close the doors one of the doors rotate 360 degrees before stopping, what causes this? Attached is a VMF showing what I mean. Outside: Inside: If you have any suggestions please tell me! Attachments:

Is that in terms of the majority of mappers out there (in which case: it's not hard)? Or in terms of professional optimised standards? Anywhoo, The doors. I assume you are using a func_door_rotating. Make sure you set the distance keyvalue to your required angle (EG '90' degrees), and not more. Keep the speed sensible (50-100). Also, since the two doors are opening in different directions (clockwise and counter-clockwise), make sure that one of them (probably the 360deg door) has the flag ' reverse direction' ticked.

Ok i actually looked at the VMF. I'm at work so do not have Hammer. however, i do have a text editor:
I can see a few things:
1) You're using props. 2) They have the same origin. Usually they have their own unique origin, where they rotate around. Unless you're making a rotating door... But then use a brush and not two props. 3) Both have 90 degrees, that's fine. 4) Both open in the same direction. They should have different directions as they open opposite ways. Tick the flag for one of them. 5) You've told them never to auto close. How do you close them? For that matter, how do you open them? Button? Use?

Is that in terms of the majority of mappers out there (in which case: it's not hard)? Or in terms of professional optimised standards? I can do a good job optimizing and mapping. No such option. The origins aren't the same. There is a minus sign in front of one of the doors position. Open direction 0 means that they are double way doors (can be opened both directions). I made them single way doors now but it still occurs. The auto close is -1 which means that they don't close automatically. I put on the flag to allow use to open/close the door. I saw the same thing on another map with double doors. I removed the slave option and instead put a trigger on each door to open the other door when opened. Infinite loop created and the map crashed when I opened one of the doors. I also tried to name them the same but it still happens. I loaded d1_trainstation_02 in GMod and it is the same with the doors there. Tried it in HL2 and the doors function perfectly... I will try to report this to the developers of GMod.

Having a bit of trouble with lighting on a florescent light. It doesn't look too realistic closely around it. Attached example vmf.

I think i get what you mean now. So you want to manually open and close them. They are linked together via this "slave" command. Do they both rotate away from you? One going to it's 90deg position while the other does a full loop and then goes to it's 90deg position? Does one rotate away but the other towards you? Try loading the map in CSS and testing the doors there. If it works fine, then it's Gmod, if it doesn't work, then it's not Gmod and don't bother the developers. As for the lights, play with the settings. firstly, use a nice colour, like: planetpixelemporium.com/tutorialpages/light.html255, 214, 170 Play about with the falloff distances. Have both relatively high, so that you don't get a large bulk of light near the source. (Setting these to non-zero will override the other setting, below). Or see this: developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Constant-Linear-Quadratic_FalloffFor a tube light, two dimmer light sources along the tube is better than one in the middle.

Yep! Yes. But if you open them and then direcly close them before they have opened completely one freaks out. It's the same issue in CSS... :\ Thank you! Looks waaay better now: Not helpful.

Yes, It's only a chunk.
The dev stuff is just to seal the map. I know I could just put a skybox around the area of the map but I just want some space.
