Since you are new to hammer (and welcome to it!), i strongly recommend you learn to build maps correctly, rather than get into many bad habits. Hammer is not a canvas you simple draw boxes over and show off the result. It is a complex tool with properties that must be taken into consideration at all times.
Here are some immediate pointers i can see about your map. Further details can be provided if requested.
Use snap to grid. Keys '[' and ']' changes the scale, as written lower right. Size 8 is good for interior wall thickness.
Don't use carve. EVER. Copy, paste and resize, or use Clip.
Never put a large box around your map. You could simply have added a roof to your map walls, with the skybox texture, rather than whole box.
Make small objects info Func_detail entities. EG the thin window beams.
You can have multiple texture per brush, IE one per face. So instead of two side-by-side brushes, have the one with different textures inside and outside.
Unseen textures should be given the NoDraw texture.
Now, lets move onto the issue here. Next time, post the compile log into a post as well, it really helps to find the problem.
Your water and glass do not work because you have a leak in your map.
A leak is when an entity, or part of it, touches the void - the "nothingness" outside of the map.
Click on the menu "Map -> Load POINT file", and a red line should appear in all four views. This line connects an entity to the void.
Your red line starts and ends in the void, making it very hard to find the entity in question. But you helped there! You said that it happened when you placed the window. Yep. The entity which leaks is your window.
If you select the window, and have helper nodes on (click
), you will see the white circle, in the 2D view, is outside of your map.
You can either drag the dot back in, or go "Tools -> Centre Origins".
Since the origin of the entity, this helper node, was outside the map, the entity is considered leaking.
I really recommend sticking around and learning as much as you can from
us me. As said before, learn to do it right the first time, rather than remaking everything later. I'm willing to help you as you go along. I may even send back your map in perfect working order, for your viewing learning experience.
Enjoy.
