Is it somehow possible to set the grid to the realistic metric system?

You can't turn on metric mode or anything, but you can use a conversion factor. Hammer unit = Imperial = Metric 1 = 0.75" = 0.01905 2 = 1.5" = 0.04 4 = 3" = 0.08 8 = 6" = 0.15 16 = 1' = 0.3 32 = 2' = 0.6 64 = 4' = 1.2 128 = 8' = 2.4 160 = 10' = 3.0 256 = 16' = 4.9 512 = 32' = 9.8

I really doubt he is going to want to do math and conversions and stuff.
1 unit is about an inch already.

Wow, someone with almost as much negative karma as I. That can be changed.... ;D The game is built around the imperial unit system, i recommend using the imperial system if you can. developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/DimensionsEG Rooms are 128 high, single doors 48-64 wide, etc.
