Ok people im getting pretty close to completing my leadworks map. But for some reason nobody ever sees my game when i try to host it! Been experimenting with Zeph to find out what " the method" is to host it. So far i / we've tried: host with hamachi............................................FAIL host without hamachi.......................................FAIL join player trough steam..................................FAIL join game trough steam...................................FAIL join console: "connect ipnumber"....................FAIL sv_cheats 1 followed by sv_lan 0.....................FAIL hosted a original map first and switched to console: " map leadworks"............worked once Sending my map to another player...................FAIL: "map version differs from server" The thing is, i / we can join gemes on the server list perfectly but i think they are all dedicated servers? Did steam decide no longer to let players host their own games? Why doesnt everything that seems logical work at all? i mean this is 2010 ffs I'd really like to know how to work this out because ive spent 5 nights on it allready with just creating frustration sigh. I play tf2, and the whole connect console by ip works as long as you use your ACTUAL internet ip, as obtained from one of those sites, and not your local router ip or anything like that(though I respect it may not be the case for your game). And I know you'd rather not use a dedicated server but if you do, srcds works for me. Here's the tutorial I used for tf2: forums.srcds.com/viewtopic/5439I'm sure there's plenty of ones for the other games out there (sorry, would look into similar ones for your game but I'm running late as it is). Good luck.

Ok thx, looked at that site but thats all about running a dedicated sever tho. I wanna actually host and play in the map with friends with just one pc here. I think i gave pople the wrong ip to join tho, must be what hamachi created or what the router displays i dunno. Still, with or without hamachi on my hosted game just never showed up on the list at all. Can't see why this ha=s to be so difficult tho.

Well, if there's a dedicated server version for hl:dm then you can run that on the same machine you play on... and yeah, hamachi didn't work for me either, these days I do the "connect 271.2.2.123" or whatever in console for most games or start up my server.
Anyhow, I'll see if I can buy a copy for me and my friend this weekend and try some stuff out, it's only 5 dollars so shouldn't be an issue.
And yeah, I know the feeling. Was weird trying to play my custom tf2 maps /w my friends for the first time... but once I got it working once, I was good to go since. Hamachi didn't work for me either btw (that's the local network simulator, right?) It's pretty cool, but I wouldn't bother /w it. Just adds overhead, doesn't really target whatever the issue is.
Again good luck.

Roight the leadworks map is near its end woohoo! Ive removed all the additional command line parameters in the process thingy. Ive set that to "default" as well and that took pretty long to compile. Tried the "hdr full compile -final (slow)" as well but that kinda crashed since i dun have hdr in my map. I havent been able to find any full compile -final (slow) without HDR settings either. So i guess thats the " default" setting? Pakrat-ed the custom stuff in it as well, 15 MB size now. Soon a buddy of mine finally gets a copy of HL2 for his b'day and he's got a dedicated server so its going to be testrunned on that before release. The only thing that has to be fixed now is my custom barrel texture. When the map is rendered and light falls on one side of a barrel it allways stays lit, even in complete darkness. In this pic ive set the func_pysbox minimum light level to 10 thats why its so bright, not setting that will allways light the side that pics up light from the closest lamp near it: The idea is to make it handle light just like a regular barrel: Thats the last thing that needs to be done so anybody any ideas?
