How not to ask for help.
Recently a charming young man by the name of "airtrooper" added me for no apparent reason, no conversation occured for about 2 days untill I finally asked him what he wanted, that was his first mistake. When you add people, introduce yourself as soon as posible.
Rusty250.: Who are you?
Rusty250.: why did you add me ?
airtrooper (need clan): I got you from a lua file .8 lol (It was actually a text file, what is .8?)
Rusty250.: From a lua file huh?
- 2 minutes of silence -
airtrooper (need clan): mod
Rusty250.: What mod?
- 1 minute of silence -
airtrooper (need clan): G
Rusty250.: Yeah, what lua file?
Rusty250.: I dont write lua
airtrooper (need clan): tank Evedently, the tank has nothing to do with LUA, when asking for help, know what to ask..
Rusty250.: oh
Rusty250.: right
airtrooper (need clan): some sort tank
Rusty250.: Yeah the tank
Rusty250.: Still, why the add? This is the first thing he should have said, something like "Hi, I downloaded you tank of gmod.org and it didnt work, can you help me?" would be the way to do it
- 5 minutes of silence - Really when asking someone for help, be there to awnser, most people actually have things they are doing other than paying attention to you..
airtrooper (need clan): ˇ Things like this are just.. annoying, why do it?
- more silence -
Rusty250.: Well?
Rusty250.: Why did you add me? is something wrong with the tank or something?
airtrooper (need clan): ˇYEA Caps, dont use it
airtrooper (need clan): i havent the data file in arrysmod Again, not knowing what hes talking about when hes asking for help, you have to be more specific than this, there is no "data file" for garrysmod, something more like "I cant find the place to put your file" would be much more appropriate
airtrooper (need clan): ~~
- Silence -
Rusty250.: What the hell do you mean?
Rusty250.: you didnt install it?
airtrooper (need clan): i did
Rusty250.: Then it should work.
airtrooper (need clan): But i must take it to my computer C: program files steam steamapps garrysmod arrismod there is no data! READ the readmes before you contact the author of the work, simply reading for about 1 minute would have solved his problem
Rusty250.: garrysmod/addons/advancedduplicator/data
Rusty250.: or something like that
airtrooper (need clan): ohh
airtrooper (need clan): i havent the dublicator :7
Rusty250.: Well.. if you havent got the duplicator how do you save things?....
airtrooper (need clan): idk maybe some steam files are fukd
airtrooper (need clan): k well bye This is a rude way to say bye to someone who just spent 10 minutes trying to help you, always say thanks if you get help.
Rusty250.: Yeah, im going to remove you, bye. Frustrating people do not stay on my list
I hope this teaches some people "contacting the author etiquette".
Peace and love throughout our comunity!
