Hi there. I have just started mapping and really need something to practice on, and what I came up with is this: I am starting a series of maps that just have to do with random places no bigger than 4 rooms. I am also making these maps not only to learn from, but to give other people places to pose on or do movies. Right now I'm working on gm_bathroom, and have run into a little trouble with lighting. Looking for help! Screen shots: And a video coming soon something that randomly came up during IMing - Flux: hey Flux: what are you doing? BluE: browsing internets Flux: there is more than one BluE: i guess so Flux: how many are there? BluE: lots i suppose Flux: There are lots of internets? Flux: WOW Flux: I thought there was just one BluE: har har har

Very professional. Instead of using light, try light_spot , facing down. That will stop the white circle around where you place the light.

Strange ground bug. Looks like you've got lightmap scale set to 1 or something, or that there's an env_cubemap giving it a different reflection to the rest of them. I assume that centre bit of floor is a separate block to the rest. Is there any difference between them?
Tone down the brightness of the lights above the sinks. There is a bug where if there are too many lights on one surface, it ignores some of them. Look in the console- any signs of errors?
With that bottom picture, perhaps the light_spot is inside the light prop or something. Add a light with brightness 255 255 255 30 or something to make the rest of it light up.

I lowered the brightness, the ground is all one piece, I took off cubemaps, and there is a console error saying that there is too many lights on one serface. Some of the light_spots were in the prop so I took them out, and I will add screenshots.

I get that error quit a bit, too... Dunno EXACTLY what that means (HOW many is TOO many?), but I've just learned to ignore it; it hasn't effected the map either way, correcting it.

I think it's 8 on one surface. Try splitting the floor up (One for the entrance corridor and one for the main toilet room.)

Yeah light spots never work for me either. I think you have to turn the power up alot to like 3000 just to get streetlight power.

When all else fails, decompile a hl2 map and copy a light_spot!

Lately, I've been experimenting with Hammer and downloading new textures, which are really helpful! I haven't really had time to work on anything, because I'm making aim_texture maps for my clan

And I've screwed all of this! I'm trying to get into making maps for looks, not for purpose.
