This is what I had in mind at the beginning, maybe set it at either dawn or dust, which ever would look better. if you go into surf_the_gloaming and go out side the main ramps you'll see how they did the env_sun i think it might look nice

While I'm not terribly familiar with 'surf_' maps, that scenery looks great (where is that, anyway?) and would probably make for a great 3D skybox scenery; the top and bottom pics would be the best. So.... We have one idea for (IMO) a great 3D skybox. Any other ideas - since we've been running a few pages of just kicking around ideas, without any headway? Maybe a Black Mesa/ Combine lab facility, a la black-ops style (set in the middle of NOWHERE... Split between above and below ground, perhaps? (Maybe a small, building cluster above and a larger facility below, or a complex above and a series of labs, below?) Perhaps a dusk map, that way there's a little 'creepy-factor' on mapload, and keep it consistent throughout, or a daytime above, and a dark, below.... 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other. Personally, I like the darker, freakier maps (Great for the AI option, if there was a want/ need to cross-game it to DM).

How about a jail set on an island?
Or a map built half way up a cliff face, with tunnels and stuff connecting the areas?
Or a map a bit like office, set on the 30th, 31st and 32nd floors of a sky scraper, with fancy decorations (much like the party scene with the Joker in the Dark Knight) and a bombsite on the roof near the helipad?
Or how about one set in an area like that of Half Life 1, with a dam the terrorists are trying to destroy? (Make it look a bit like compound, but with dust textures for the floor and cliffs)

The way it bounces off the wall textures is due to cubemaps, not the env_sun. The env_sun just adds a sun into the map, kind of blinding you as you look at it.

Well, elevators DO have a certain bit of detraction in source, but maybe smaller 'lifts' that're more like secret passages. I like the cliff idea AND the island jail idea, too... Hmm... Maybe a jail on an island that's up a mountain... Kinda like atop an old volcano (the thought I'm going with. That way, we can do the jail, island, cliff, above and below ground and still be able to integrate all the yummy bits! Going through it all, this would make a pretty killer HL2/ DM map, too... Great Combine compound idea. Have the deeper, underground parts all zombified and stuff! (BTW, Phil, I like my new rank... Very swank. )

I've been working on a de map recently. It's still a bit small, but it's fun, balanced and could have potential.
