You can make models with Propper in Hammer, but what is really the difference since you use the same tools to make both?

Models do not count towards your "face limit", which is the number of faces on a brush that are textured.
Models count towards the entity limit, which is much larger.
Having a complex func_Detail, with say 200 visible faces is a lot more expensive then a single model version.
It's even better if you have multiple copies of the Detail in your map, as the model will be far far cheaper.

keep in mind at a certain point, the addition of new propmodels is going to start eating away at your fps. When you notice that happening, try not to add any more prop models in that area, and replace with func_detail,which at that point will be cheaper than prop models fps wise. (in terms of fps simple world brushes give you the best bang for your buck) Hope i'm not too confusing!

Never make "detail" out of world brushes. "Details" in the map must be func_detail (hence the name).
Detail world brushes, EG curves, pipes, columns, ledges, model-like props, will be VERY expensive to the map. Never do it.
Func_detail are great for static walls like those above, but models are cheaper yet, especially if they are just repeats.
