Hello. So i bought a new cpu. AMD II X4 PHENOM 840 3.2Ghz
I was playing counterstrike source yesterday, and i did the fps test that u can run in the css menu. I got a 270Fps test.
But online i was playing with about 150 Fps or more.
Then in the night i got about 100-120 fps..
And today, i started playing with 120 fps, and now im playing with 60-100.. What the hell is wrong ? I check the temperatures, and its all fine.

Because some people cannot make maps for the life of them, they make very POOR maps, which will run VERY badly even on powerful computers. This is due to lack of optimisation.
Try your FPS in a valve map.
I have quite a powerful comp, and have had down to 30fps in someones map. made me shudder to think he never used a single func_detail ... eww.

I was talking about stock maps. But nvm, its fine now, i reisntalled css, runned the fps thest and got an avarage of 270fps. I even reach the 400fps. And playing online in d2 i got about 150 to 220 fps. Thanks. Another thing. I have speed fan. And it shows a System temperature. What is that ? Because when i quit css after one hour it was at 50° with a fire icon. Cpu was good and the other ones too

North/South Bridge? Who knows. Changes per Motherboard. The bridges are usually not fan assisted, so can run hotter and/or take time to cool.

My pc is getting on a bit now , Clocked Q6600 / GTX9800+ But should be able to run games But like you sometimes fps will drop , there are so many variables , program running , background events comp temps , as Zeph stated even the bridges they get bloody hot! There normaly just a lump of aluminium to dissipate the heat , could be down to air flow in the case , room temp or even dogey drivers so many things. Or just a bad map
Off topic:
Bhop_mist and bhop_mist_2 i believe never had a single func_detail and now on this newer computer i understand why everyone rages :/
but over the years i have since realised , and in bhop_mist_4 you will start to see more optimisation and it runs really well both server and client while maintain good frame rate New map im working on is running fantastic with optimisation - went back though all the old tutorials i followed to remember everything i forgot and picked up on new things

Zeph is the MAN for optimisation, as he will tell you, there's a good section on the topic of each forum

I'd prefer to get maps in stages, and to optimise as i go along (correct bad habits before the whole map is full of them, etc) else its damn difficult to overhaul a finished product.

^ I found that easier my self with mist4 i done bits , at the end done an overhaul
Now im just creating nodraw and texturing visable surfaces while adding in hints so much better and wont dely the map at the end for not being bothered to go all the way back through
