I was wondering if there was a way to make text display on people's screen when they walk over something in CS:S. I've tried point_message, but it doesn't work. Anyone know how?

This really is something I need to look into some time. I've heard that point_clientcommand works, with
say HELLO
in its properties.
or what ever, but there must be a better way of doing it. If any one has a better idea I'd happily make a tutorial on it for youtube, since lots of people ask this question.

This will work for sure: Make an entity: env_hudhint Give it a name, and fill in the text you want it to display. Now make a brush with the trigger texture, and tie it to an entity with pressing cntrl+t. Make it an trigger_once/trigger_multiple, whatever fits you. on outputs add: Onstarttouch/or anything whatever fits your map The name you gave the env_hudhint Showhudhint This should work, although I'm not sure if this shows only shows it to the player, or to everyone in the server

thanks for the replies! what supercakemaker said worked fine. I'm going to test later on today whether or not the text does display on more than one player. Thanks again.

i dont think game_text works for counter-strike, i dont remember, but look it up on the valve developer wiki, it says specificly for this game it doesn't work. but check to make sure.

I think it's more getting the console to say something rather than "how" it says it.
The trick is not to let it appear in the "say" chat window, but as a real command, which i assume the hudhint does.

developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Category:GUI_Entitiesgame_text - SHOULD BE USEDAn entity that displays text on players' screens. This text can be defined directly in the Hammer editor (unlike the similar env_message entity which uses the titles.txt file). This entity is suitable only for standalone bsp maps. If your text is not displaying properly in a multiplayer game, try checking the "All Players" flag. env_message - POSSIBLE USEAn entity that draws a text message on player's HUD (or players' HUD's), predefined in the hl2/scripts/titles.txt file, packed inside the Steam/SteamApps/source engine.gcf. point_message - POSSIBLE USEAn entity that displays a text message in the world, at its origin. env_hudhint - NOT PROPER USEThis is a point entity available in all Source games. It is an entity to control the display of HUD hints, which show the player what key is bound to a particular command. point_clientcommand - NOT PROPER USEThis point entity issues commands to the client console as if they were typed manually by the player. The client commands are sent as parameters of the Command input. One instance of the entity is ever needed in a map. In multiplayer games, the commands are only executed on the Activator's client. point_servercommand - NOT PROPER USE (also can destroy vmf) An entity that issues commands to the server console. It's used by simply placing it in a map and triggering the Command input, the parameter override should be the exact console command to run. This entity can corrupt the vmf file if used improperly. If your map crashes when you open it, this could be the problem. Open the vmf file in notepad and press Ctrl+F. Search for command and remove that line. Looks like game_text is the one, perhaps it's not working in CS:S due to a flag or something.

I've just tried both Game_Text and Point_Message. Neither worked in CS!
Anyone found a solution?

One thing i should have read:
So normally, this would work. For CS:S something else is needed.

Can anyone check if this now works since CSS has been upgraded to the 2009 engine?
