Morning chaps, I'll start with a hello, as this is my first post.
The names Dan, 24 (almost), doing Audio Production at Uni. Just started getting to grips with mapping as a hobby, which leads to my first question:
I'm currently trying to make a left 4 dead map with a custom skybox texture I downloaded, the problem is, I have no idea where I should put the texture files in relation to my left 4 dead dir.
I've figured out how to change which texture i'm using in Hammer, it's just "installing" new ones I get off the internet. I asked for help on the Left 4 Dead Mods forum, and it was said that new textures are simply put into the skybox folder found in left4dead\materials. The problem is, I don't have a skybox folder.
Presumably I'm just being stupid, and there is a simple answer. But until then, I'm going to assume it's witchcraft. If someone could post the exact install directory of said texture files, I'd be rather chuffed.
Help please!
Yours, Dan.

I went ahead and tried to figure it out in tf2. Seems just making a skybox folder in /%name%/game/.../materials/ called skybox works. Then just place the skybox textures in there.
However, take note to restart hammer and anything if you have those open at the time. Or try opening them and then restarting. I dunno, it needs to be cached I guess but it didn't work at first for me but then restarting hammer and tf2 got it to work.
Good luck.

I would guess just to make a skybox folder.
When in game use the tools/skybox texture (light blue squares), and under Map->Properties enter the name of the skybox there. Note: type the full name except the last two letters (EG: rt, lf, etc). EG: If one of the skybox textures you want is called: "Skybox_01_00rt" Add the name "Skybox_01_00" the 'rt' 'lf' etc are "right" "left" etc, naming the 6 'pictures' which make up the skybox.
