It would help if you showed us a picture of what it looked like at the moment. I have a couple of suggestions but I'd like to see what you've done so far before suggesting anything.

prop_static, decals, workin doors, shootable windows? maybe that helps you? +1 these will help. But Its all about what you can come up with creatively, there's no set procedure that you can follow that will make your map good, just experimentation and your creative skills.

Your map looks fine. However, to make it look more interesting I'd suggest making the walls more than just... flat. Try adding in supports, overhangs and stuff. Look at this. As you can see, the indented bits and stuff make for some nice long shadows. I'd say you should add some higher bits to the building as well to make it have a better outline against the sky. I'm thinking of which colours would go well- try some areas of the wall with darker shades of grey. On the far building you can see I added different colours, heights and some sticky out bits to make it a bit more interesting to look at.

Ahh okay im getting it now, what about props and items in a room to make it look more than just an empty room? How would I create some of those?

to make it look more broken you could give the inner sides of the wall another texture, and you could add a prop_static (bricks) at the floor.

Okay so im pretty satisfyed about how the first building turned out, some things need fixing and i wanted to know what you guys thought. The second smaller building with the pointed roof has no lights in it yet so disregard that, the main focus is just the first building. Let me know what you think: www.xfire.com/video/364ff/Also xfire screwed up the texture on the second smaller buildings roof. idk why.

It's a beautifully ugly map. Well done. I particularly like all of the fragments below the broken ceiling (or floor ). Must have taken a while.
