Hi there,
I want to know if it's possible to block things from outside of a building. Like when I do mat_wireframe 3 I see things through the walls which I don't need to see yet. I already used a areaportal at the door but is there something to block other stuff from outside? I made a hint box as big as the wall but that didnt work.
It's kinda hard to explain but I hope you guys understand.

Vvis on normal. And dont worry if its not completely optimized, it will never be perfect.

well the problem is, is that you have very low fps when playing it. Even with optimized stuff, and the hint box didnt work Do you have a idea to block things from outside then? Because if you put mat_wireframe 3 on you will see lots of props and stuff your not supposed to see yet and it lowers your fps MASSIVLY. I hope someone can help

Mat_wireframe is more costly to render than normal view so always measure your fps with mat_wireframe on 0. Also try running vvis on normal.

Yes I did wireframe on 0 and vvis on normal, but just to look if the hint boxes etc. worked but they dont

With things like optimization you realy just need experience. Start with a small square room with a house in the middle and experiment with the hints and areaportals. You can't learn everything from a tutorial. But that won't stop me from posting THIS www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ne59X-e-R9Y

You could do it the hl2 way of making a giant areaportal up to the skybox. Just be careful about the leaks areportals cause.

I did the giant areaportal but thats just weird when you cross 'the line' everything behind it dissapears Well I just wanted to post that I found a solution for this: search for the texture 'occluder' make it where ever you want it to be, press ctrl + t and make it a func_occluder. Then make sure initial state is set to active and it works.
