EDIT: While mapping I found out that steam engine isn't the best for outdoor mapping... WE <3 CRYTEK ENGINE And no, i'm no fanboy ^^ I said that source was bad for outdoor mapping in the first post, I take it nobody read through that thought.. build it up, make hills and stuff so it blocks out alot of the vis leafs, then the lag goes away, learn about proper compiling and the likes. As I said, this will test your skills as a mapper. No crytek bullshit allowed, its too easy. We must be elitists! we are above all those who use any engine other than source!

LoL I know, and really I read everything on this forum and about: 'we are above all those who use any engine other than source!' Well said, and ofcourse I will make a beautyfull outside enviroment EDIT: ok, this is sad, everytime when I've made a brush with displacements, and I'm trying to compile it, it gives an error... So give me one natural place (Don't say ocean) where no displacements are needed... You're right there is none, so I won't take part of the contest anymore (Not this one atleast ^^)

If you are adding the displacements to func_detail it always gives an error. entities cant have displacements, func_detail is an entity.
Common problem.

I've never made it to func_detail... just made a brush, press create in the displacements tab, power 4, then made it how I wanted it to be, saved map, tried to compile, error.

What comes up then. Dont give up, just find the problem. People have made maps with shitloads of displacements, just look at the valve maps, every second brush is a displacement, even stairs.
