The Garry's Mod configuration must be created on the Orange box half of the SDK. If you create it on the Episode One side of the SDK, it will not work properly or at all. Create new configuration in Hammer, call it "Garry's Mod" (Tools > Options > Edit > Add) Game Data Files: (orangebox/bin) HalfLife2.fgd = Ep2 (HL2 aswell) (garrysmod/garrysmod) Garrysmod.fgd (OPTIONAL) Default Point Entity class: info_player_start Default SolidEntity class: func_detail Cordon Texture: tools/toolsskybox Game Executable Directory: $SteamUserDir\garrysmod Game Directory: $SteamUserDir\garrysmod\garrysmod Hammer VMF Directory: (Where you want to save and load VMF saves for Garrysmod) i use.. $SteamUserDir\garrysmod\garrysmod\maps\vmf Now go to the last Tab, Build programs.. Okay, I did everything you said except for game data because I couldn't figure that part out.
Anyways, when I load up a map, all the objects- such as the fog controller, lights, and props have a little symbol saying "obsolete" on them... I figured this must be because of the default solid entity becoming func_detail, so I tried using that in the entities tool... but nothing came up.
Also, none of the textures that are exclusive to HL2 ep2 work any more... which is sort of confusing me.
Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? This is kind of a problem for me...

Will this also allow you to bring in textures and models from other games like CS:S and DOD:S? Or only HL2 Ep2? If not, is there a way to bring in other models and textures from other games?

Thank you the post about how to set up my hammer editor for Garry's Mod was very useful, only it wouldn't work. For some reason when I started up hammer editor with Garry's Mod selected as map type, the 4 different screens were messed up, I couldn't add anything into the map and it was very screwed up. If you have had this experience and know how to fix it please tell me.

how can i make it on the orange box half of the sdk ? when i select orange box in the starter, and then a game it says no game configurations to run with
when -engine ep1 is set, its just the same

You must load up the game you want to map for before loading SOURCE SDK, as that will configure the game. You can then load up Source SDK and it'll work.

hmm tryed it but still the same, I just dont know how to get the source sdk in the orange box half.( i tryed in the source sdk program chooser, see pic in beginning, but that wont work cuz i cant select a game then)

just dont put it on that side XD
but now you can use half life 2 engine too.... that, in fact, is same as garrysmod
