Alright. Here's one that's stumped even the moobs at Steam (Not a steep task, apparently): I D/Led the Source SDK, and have some very odd issues. A) The selection drop-down SHOWS the option for both 'Counter-Strike: Source' and 'Half-Life 2: Deathmatch', but only allows selection of 'CS:S'; B) SDK locks up when trying to compile to DoD:S, regardless of how simplistic the object-count. I HAVE out the '-engine ep1' in the launch preferneces, so THAT's not the issue. Lost.

You don't need to put '-engine ep1' in the launch preferences.
When you say 'but only allows selection of 'CS:S'', what do you mean? Does it come up with an error for other games when you try to load it?
Do you have a legitimate version of these games?
Try verifying the Game Integrity Cache of Day of Defeat Source by right clicking on it, properties, end tab.

Noted about the 'ep1;' the dropdowns for SDK are: 'Engine Version:' and, 'Current Game:'
The available (selectable) options are only 'Engine Version: Half-Life 2: Episode One' and, 'Current Game: Counter-Strike: Source.'
On the latter, HL2DM shows up on the drop-down (when you click it), but it isn't selectable (i.e. when you click it, it just goes back and auto-selects CS:S, as an option, instead)
Yes. All of my games are legit.
Game cache integrity verification elicited no changes.
Lastly, what would cause HL2DM to crash on map-load? A buddy of mine has SDK, as well, and says that his maps compile in Hammer, but when he loads them in HL2DM for test-play, it gets to the 'OK' box (map intro screen), does the 'sound sample clip/ loop' thing and then dumps out.
I told him it's something with his map, but he doesn't know what or why, so I told him I'd ask if there was something about compiling a map that would make it crash HL2DM, as well as mine.

* Source SDK will not switch to TF2 or DoD:S. When I select them, it changes to Episode 2. Also, it does the same thing for episode 1 (the game), except it switches to hl2.--Empweston 13:21, 15 Aug 2008 (PDT)
Try using the "refresh SDK content" function of the Source SDK, and run all games before trying to use the configuration for it. Solokiller 07:16, 16 Aug 2008 (PDT)
That doesn't work. I also completely reinstalled steam, and validated and ran all my games. Episode 2 was incomplete, I removed it. I still have this problem. The SDK worked perfectly a week ago.--Empweston 10:08, 16 Aug 2008 (PDT)
* Fixed, I removed the Episode 2 configuration.--Empweston 18:50, 16 Aug 2008 (PDT)
* Having Empweston's problem. I can't change configurations, in the EP2 Engine it refuses to change to anything but portal (I don't own an OB games, so removing the EP2 configuration is out of the question)and in the EP1 Engine it refuses to change to anything but HL2. Make of that what you will.
I suggest your friend makes a very simple map to see if that works.

What I've opted to do is step back and start completely over (noob-map-style), and get everything down, well enough to stop harrassing you with my dumb questions. Since I learn things, easier, by reverse engineering them, I started off, that way. Erf. Somethings aren't as easy, like that The new 'Tutorial List' page is helpful as a mofo (That and your YooToob Vids )!
