Hi i am Making a huge Hl2 mod/map and things that i what done to the map i don't know how to do and i cant find any vids on how to do some of the things heres a Little list: I need a weather system so rain turns on and off at certain times or on a timer but does it on its own on but a button or trigger. And i also need to know how to make a spawning system for the player like a backpack kind of thing but i think IL need to know allot of scripting for that and last but not least how to make some descent traps and a scary haunted house and i have one or two bugs or problems it will be a real help if someone can help me out here my two problems are 1 weapons flicker when i test the mod with guns and it happens most when i move about, and there is not impacts when i shoot the guns at anything but they do make damage and can kill and the other problem is well i think thats it for problems but i RELAY RELAY need to know how to make flares in SDK i must know how to and note i am using HL2 EP1 engine as Orange box one does not what to use skins any help will be a big help thx.

very usefull vinniej. Weather is done by a large trigger-brush, made into a func_precipitation entity. Not there is no way to block the rain, so it'll have to have many brushes for all areas you want raid to be. To turn it on and off, use a points_severcommand with the settings listed in the previous link. What equipment players start with? Yes scripting, but make them have to find their equipment . Scary house, google "floor plans". Add no lighting, corpses in cupboards... simple! Traps, well use ur imagination limited to what entities are available. Eg explosions, fire, steam. Moving things like giant boulders and swinging axes are a bit harder but doable. Shooting objects like nails and bullets are harder still, but you can always cheat by using a trigger_hurt. Screenshot the weapon flicker if you can. if it's "white' or "shiny' or 'blue' then it's reflecting the skybox due to lack of Cubemaps. See the Uber FAQ. There are no Decals of bullet holes on walls? That's the texture not having the correct settings i guess... Are these normal textures or custom? Flares -> a very bright light_dynamic (RED!), a env_spark, and a func_physbox. Easy. Don't have too many light_dynamics near each other. If the flare can stay still, then 'light' and 'func_detail' instead of the movable physbox and dynamic light.

Thanks a lot for the advice and with the flickering weapons it is not of lights that it flickers its just vanishes for like a split second its pretty annoying and this mod is just started for hl2mp i have no custom textures i guess its probably scripting again to fix the lack of impacts on anything but the shots do damage props npcs as it would normally any other help and advice will be a real good help thxs ;D

Weapon textures per chance? On event or randomly? While looking around?
Try Verifying Game Files in steam, because bullet hole decals should appear.

The weapon flickering happens when i move and look around and can you explain a bit more by Verifying Game Files?

In Steam: Right click the Game Click Properties Go to the "Local Files" tab Click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache"
That sounds like a graphical issue, try changing your graphics settings. Could explain a low-decal limit (ie, zero) if Graphics is set very low.

Hi also i haven't made the server.dll and client.dll i am using then form a other mod so i can test the map i think that might be the problem with somethings and two other things you might know is how to add music in the menu i tried gamestartup1 but nothing plays and my background is a map that i don't what it to be (lost coast) and i cant find it in the maps area and last but not least i need to know how to make the dlls and also i what to make the crow NPC so it attacks any players any help on this will be a big help thx

Hi i really appreciate your help in this and i have validated the game files of HL2, HL2EP1 and everything was OK i could not validate my mod luncher the the tab did not come up so im not too shore what to do?

WOW big change i have impacts now and the guns are not flickering fro some reason but the flashlight wont work so i don't know whats going on thumbs up its not going to go back with the problems ;D

What was your solution? And by-the-way, the full stop (.) is a great tool for sentence structure, allowing people to clearly understand what you're trying to say.
No idea about making dlls or menu music. Tis beyond my knowledge. You may be better of going to a modding forum than a mapping forum.
Flashlight: try "mp_flashlight 1" in game. If it works, then set up a logic_auto to trigger a point_servercommand with that command on game start.

Hi and thank you very much for all the help you have given me, and i think the solution was verifying Hl2 and HL2 ep1 as i was also just making some small changes to my map and tested it this time it had impacts and gunshots are visible.
And again thx for the help IL see what else i can do and find out and maby post any other problems i encounter. ;D

And one last thing, do you know how to make more weapons in the game i was thinking of having css guns in it, but i need to import it in a certain way i don't know how to do this and help will be good. ;D
