I would say try another texture. The one hes using doesn't even look like a proper decal/overlay seeing as how its not transparent.

Its not just one texture, the crator one also doesn't work, also, some of the trees show up weird in the editor, not sure about after its compiled, anyway to fix that?

Define weird? Yellow box? Low quality? probably due to save system resources in the viewer.

ok I have had this problem. what you need to do is create a light_enviroment. and/or a light of any kind

Did you try using "/overlay/" textures? a different texture? the light_environment? moving the overlay?
