Woohooo! First post! Well, on to the post then. lol I'm trying to build a slurpee machine, I figured I'd just build it in hammer since its not a very complicated model. I can't figure out one thing though, how can I make a shiny texture? What I have created so far - What I want to achieve - Notice how my metal texture is dull gray? I know its a hammer preview but it looks the same in game. If you look at the second image notice how the metal reflects light and it shines? I tried achieving this using a cubemap but it did not work out well at all it was wayy to powerful and I found that the cubemap effected everything but the texture I wanted it to effect. The walls looked horrible and my metal was still dull gray. =/ Any ideas/tips?

Look for a metal texture in hammer, make sure that in the 3d window where it says Camera click the box and select 3d textured. NOT Shaded. Now find the metal texture you like and apply it to the brush, now if its a reflective texture it will have what appears to be a sky kinda reflection in it, it might take a couple textures for you to find it but you should be able too relatively easily if not ill post some good ones. Now place and env_cubemap next to it and go to its properties and click the dropper icon, and click on the visible faces of the metal texture. Compile your map, open your console and type Buildcubemaps then restart css and it should be reflective.

an env_cubemap can help but it wont achieve the effect YOU'RE goin for, but if u have a shiny model alone+cubemap=shiny shiny

uhm you can do that with a really thin glass block on top of it but it depends on some situations how it will look

I'm going to be a miserable old fart, and I'm going to say that you shouldn't worry about things like that. Looking at your map, I'm guessing that you have HUNDREDS of lights in one room. This will cause problems. You won't need a light entity for every single light, it'll cause lots of problems later on. You're focusing on making a tiny part of your level detailed while the rest is very empty. I suggest making your map less skewed. Make the map more detailed, but don't add in pointless details.
And yes, you can find shiny textures that will do the job. Lots of the metal textures will do the job.
citadel_tilewall005a is one of my favourites.
