CopyPaste VMF Issue

I have a map near completion and despite all the basic optimization and fast compiling I am not satisfied with the compile time taken as my map requires plenty of testing. I fail at creating portals etc so I did the next best thing... I continued my map in another file! Huzzah! Excellent, everything is going as plan. Until... I decided to test the progress of my secondary map and copy/paste it into the first existing map, vortex and Saved As with a different file name. Compiled it, it was fine, played the game it didn't have any complaints. But as I reached to the secondary stage (where my second file should be pasted) it doesn't exist, not one tiny bit does. I tried to figure out the issue. What I noticed was: - Despite being saved if I reload the map my pasted and connected secondary terrain doesn't exist.
- Pasted the file into the original again and double clicked on a few walls. Ive noticed they all have no ticks under "Visgroup". Obviously it doesn't believe it exists as anything whatsoever. Although I can see it perfectly on Hammer.
- Compiled fast, or at least not as slow as it should of been with the extension and vortexing was strangely too easy and freescale. Basically meaning the tools do not recognize the other textures as connectible terrain.
There may be a very simple explanation for this however I am working on my first map therefore new. Any suggestions? Would be must appreciated!

I would suggest restarting your PC, some times Hammer does weird stuff like this. Occasionally you'll change something to a prop type and the next time you click on it it'll be a prop_detail again. It's really confusing.

Tried both reset and Shut down. (had to made sure since I'm vista". This time I tried something a little different. I created a whole new empty file. Copied and Pasted (via Map Properties, Ctrl+C/V) both maps into this one file, combined them, saved as new name. Began compiling but I got the whole "File not Specified" error. Also all brushes continue to have no Visgroups, including categories to even tick. In addition, all my Texture Application edits are messed up. I already spent an hour searching solutions through good old reliable Google but I haven't managed to find anything related. Someone, somewhere did mention something about 'It appears in the latest version of Hammer Ep1 Pasting does not work'.
There has to be something plainly stupid and obvious I am forgetting... but what...

Without trying to be too pushy or naggy (especially that I'm just a guess) I would like to copy/paste a post of mine from the renowned file spammed site - fpsbanana. This is so if anyone else reads the additional info I've added it may help you come up with solutions.
Introduction: I continue onto my first map and near completion. Running fast VVIS and implementing several optermisation techniques didn't satisfy me enough as my 'Slide' map requires constant testing therefore more speedy compiling. So I took a pro tip and did the next best thing, I continued my second half on a different file!
Status: First half 100% complete - Tested on VVIS fast - Runs as planned. Second half 70% complete - Tested on VVIS fast - Runs as planned.
Errors on log - A few clusters and a complaint or two about props but it doesn't seem to effect or damage my map. They both run fine!
Issue: I realized I have made it far into my second segment without testing the renowned easy-to-use copy/paste feature for other maps. So I copied my current progress into a backup of the first map (backup has also been tested and runs fine). It compiles (but I noticed a bit fast) and it runs well. I play the map and there isn't any issues. However as soon as I reach far enough to the second part content there is nothing. It doesn't exist whatsoever. So I went back to Hammer, reloaded the map. My pasted content disappeared! But I did copy/paste, saved then compiled it! Then to add to it I copied/pasted it again, saved and ran it. Exact same problem. Reloaded, AGAIN! Third time I copied and pasted it and looked at the brushes/Walls/Floors etc. I noticed something... For my brushes there were no visgroups ticked nor categories to tick them on! Hmm so it appears to narrow it down to that anything I copy and paste into another file doesn't ever get recognized despite its visibility and options to edit on Hammer. Attempting to compile the two halves pasted file gives me the "The system cannot find the file specified" error. I am assuming since 100% was copied/pasted that time it didn't believe anything existed at all.
All Triggers seem to be noticed and the problem finding "Alt+P" tool appears to find issues with all my decals (I believe it reckons they don't have any walls to be placed on anymore).
Failed Solutions: Reset or switched off my computer. Reloaded Hammer - no luck, exact same problem. Copied both maps into a whole new file. However both had the issue, therefore strengthening my theory of the broken copy/paste feature. I also tried making a very basic box map on new file. Copied and paste it on another new file. Exact same "no visgroups" issue - removed pasted content after reloading and "no map specified error". So I believe my maps are not corrupted.
I searched for a while on net for solutions but nothing turned up so I presume its something obvious that I may slap my own face over (I hope so actually, would give me relief). Does anyone else have this problem? Any additional issues or opinions of the source of the issue?
Sorry for the long read, thanks for reading.
Edit: I believe there is a Hammer issue. Could it be cause I'm running this on Vista? Perhaps my map names should not have any underscores in it? Hopefully it is something this simple. Suggestions for other methods of copy/pasting map content to another will be great appreciated!

I have fixed the issue. It was a basic problem but one to consider nonetheless.
The issue of copying/pasting is that I went on "Map Properties" (it selects all) then pressed Ctrl+C - copied. Then Ctrl+V on desired map. This doesn't work.
The basic solution is - Go to Edit - click Select All, Edit again, Copy then find a map and press "Paste Special" and the issue is adverted. Thanks for your suggestions and time.
