I get an error when i try to run my map (dod ,orange box, hammer editor). The command failed. Windows reported the error: "The system cannot find the file specified."
does anyone know how to fix this (i made a giant hollow skybox around my map just to make sure it wasn't a leak, it didn't work). This happens not just on this map but it has happened for CSS and GMod. Please reply

I had this problem when I was starting to make maps. Have you made and displacement brushes func_detail?
If you have, delete them and remake them, displacements cause this crash if they are made into an entity (func_detail).

no displacements, i have used the carve tool however and made a small sky box. Any other ideas?

if it helps i looked in the saved folder and the save file was not a .bsp, but that may be because it hasn't compiled (which im trying to do)

Press ALT + P in hammer and see if there are any errors. If that fails you will need to start back tracking and removing parts of your map that could be causing the problem.

The carve tool to create a skybox? Just make one big brush around the leval and make it into a hollow room.

Cheers m8 alt P helped, i hadn't made an info_player_start, i had made info_player_allies and Player_axis, but not info_player_start. What is the difference between info_player_start and Info_player_axis + info_player_allies, what does it do?

info_player_start is a useless entity left over from hl2. its safe to ignore this error.

ok..... the erorr (when i pressed alt + 9 ) was that my map didn't have an info_player_start i had the dod player_axis and ally, notinfo_player_start now it compiles right but i cant open it in Dod. A dod map shoulden't need an info_player_start right?

ok here is the compile log, but before you read that i want to know why you need a Info_player_start for a DoD map, all the tutorials say that all you need is a info_player_axis and ally. Why is it an error if i dont put a info_player_start in then? Also the map compiles fine but i cannot launch it in DoD i select the map, click play and nothing happens (i did quit hammer before trying to launch)
